Course
The São Paulo Half Marathon course
The 20th edition starts and finishes in the car park of Shopping Metrô Itaquera, beside the Corinthians stadium in São Paulo's East Zone, with the half going off at 6:45. The first 9 km are an out-and-back on Avenida José Pinheiro Borges, a wide, fast avenue under the Jacu-Pêssego viaduct, before the route passes through the Túnel Jornalista Odon Pereira and alongside the stadium on Avenida Radial Leste.

The second half heads into the neighbourhood streets via Avenida do Contorno and the Viaduto Milton Leão to a turnaround on Avenida Calim Eid, then returns to Itaquera. Expect long straight avenues with gentle grades, plus short ramps at the tunnel and viaducts, all on closed asphalt roads.

- Weather on race day
- Late January is high summer in São Paulo: the 6:45 start is usually around 19–23 °C with high humidity, warming quickly once the sun is up. Summer storms tend to come in the afternoon, so race morning is often dry but muggy: drink at every station and pace the first 10 km slightly conservatively.
What to train for
The long out-and-back avenues reward steady pacing, so practise holding half marathon pace on straight roads with weekly tempo runs of 20 to 40 minutes and long runs of 16 to 20 km.
Add a few short hill repeats for the tunnel and viaduct ramps.
Because you will be training through the hottest weeks of the year, run early, drink well and treat a slightly slower pace in humid heat as normal.

Taper
Tapering for the São Paulo Half Marathon
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on January 24, 2027, your taper starts around January 12, 2027.
