Vitória da Conquista sits on a plateau at about 900 m above sea level, so the air is a little thinner than on the coast, which you will notice at threshold effort. The half has eight water stations and the course stays supported for three hours after the start. The organiser has not published a route map or elevation profile yet.
- Distances
- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Thanks to its altitude, Vitória da Conquista is one of the mildest cities in Bahia: March mornings are usually around 18–22 °C, warming into the mid-20s by the time half marathoners finish. Expect cloud or a passing shower some years, and good running conditions most of the time.
What to train for
The altitude of about 900 m costs a few seconds per kilometre at hard efforts, so set your goal pace slightly conservatively and run the first half on feel.
Build long runs to 18 to 20 km and add a weekly tempo of 20 to 30 minutes.
If you live near sea level, arriving a couple of days early helps you settle in.
