    Course

    The Maratona de Torres course

The third Maratona Internacional de Torres runs over the weekend of 13 and 14 March 2027 in Torres, the northernmost beach town of Rio Grande do Sul, with 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km races. The organisers bill it as one of the most beautiful courses in Brazil, and Torres is known for basalt headlands rising straight from the sea, such as the Morro do Farol and the cliffs of Parque da Guarita, next to long open beaches such as Praia Grande.

    Read the full course notes

The town itself sits on a flat coastal plain, so any real climbing would come from the headlands if the route visits them. The detailed 2027 route, elevation profile and start times had not been published at the time of writing. Check the event page for the official map before you plan course-specific sessions.

    Field
Up to 2,000 entries across all distances (about 1,400 registered in 2026)
    Weather on race day
Mid-March in Torres is late summer: temperatures usually range from about 20 °C at dawn to 25 °C in the afternoon, with high humidity and around 146 mm of rain in the month. The coast is often breezy, so expect some wind on exposed stretches and plan your hydration for warm, sticky conditions.

    What to train for

Until the route is published, train for a warm, humid coastal race: do your key sessions early in the morning and practise drinking at regular intervals on long runs.

Marathon runners should build to long runs of 30 to 34 km with the last 8 to 10 km at goal pace, and half marathoners to 18 to 22 km.

Run some sessions into the wind to learn to hold effort rather than pace, and keep a weekly set of short hill repeats in case the course takes in one of the headlands. The 2026 event listing gave a 5:30 start, so rehearse an early breakfast.
