    Course

The Maratona Internacional de Campinas course

The race is held in Campinas, about 90 km northwest of São Paulo, at an altitude of roughly 600–700 m. No 2027 route or elevation profile had been published at the time of writing, but local press reports that the city's marathons currently run as two identical 21 km laps, so expect to pass the same landmarks twice.

Campinas streets are generally rolling rather than flat, with the long, gentle grades typical of the São Paulo interior. Check the official route map once it is released before you settle on a pacing plan.

    Distances
    Marathon, 30K, Half marathon, 10K, 5K
    Weather on race day
Mid-March in Campinas is late summer: mornings usually start around 19–22 °C and climb towards 28–30 °C by late morning, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Humidity stays high at the end of the rainy season, so start conservatively and drink at every station.

    What to train for

Prepare for warmth and rolling roads.

Do your long runs early in the morning on routes with gentle climbs and practise drinking on the move.

If the two-lap format is confirmed, settle into a relaxed effort on the first lap and save your push for the second: long runs split into two equal halves, with the second slightly faster, rehearse this well. Add a weekly hill session of 6 to 10 x 1 minute uphill to build strength for the grades.
