Course
The London Landmarks Half course
The race starts on Whitehall, close to Downing Street, and bills itself as London's only half marathon through both Westminster and the City. On the 2026 route, runners headed past Big Ben and east along the Embankment beside the Thames to the Tower of London (about 5 km), then wound back through the City past the Monument, the Bank of England and St Paul's Cathedral, with loops around Fleet Street and the Royal Courts of Justice, before returning along the river to finish near Trafalgar Square.

The course is fast and flat, but the City section has plenty of tight turns and hairpins, so running the shortest line takes concentration. Tall buildings and riverside underpasses can upset GPS, so trust the official markers over your watch. The 2027 route is still to be announced.
- Terrain
- Flat
- Distances
- Half marathon
- Weather on race day
- Early April in central London is usually cool, around 7–13 °C in the morning, with a chance of showers. That suits fast running: start in a throwaway layer and expect the breeze to feel stronger along the open Embankment.
What to train for
Flat roads with many turns reward runners who can accelerate smoothly back to pace, so add strides and short fartlek surges to your easy runs.
The key sessions are threshold work, such as 3 × 3 km or 2 × 5 km at half marathon pace, and long runs of 18–22 km finishing with 5 km at goal pace.
Practise taking corners tight and relaxed on city streets, and learn to pace by effort when GPS drifts. With crowds and costumes everywhere, settle into your own rhythm early rather than weaving through the field.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the London Landmarks Half
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on April 4, 2027, your taper starts around March 23, 2027.
