    Course

    The Jurerê Night Run course

The race starts and finishes at P12 on Servidão José Cardoso de Oliveira in Jurerê Internacional, on the north of Santa Catarina Island, with an evening start (the registration listing shows 18:00). Both the 8 km and the 5 km mix asphalt, beach sand and obstacles: earlier editions ran mostly along Avenida dos Búzios, Jurerê's main avenue, and crossed onto the sand of the beach.

The neighbourhood sits at sea level, so the challenge is the soft sand and the obstacles rather than hills. It is a festive night race with a lively finish area, and the minimum age is 16 for the 8 km and 14 for the 5 km.

    Weather on race day
March in Florianópolis is usually warm and humid: at the evening start it is usually around 23–27 °C, with humidity near 80%, and summer showers are common. Arrive well hydrated and expect to sweat a lot even after sunset.

    What to train for

Running on sand takes more strength and shortens your stride, so add one run a week on the beach (start with 10 to 15 minutes on firm sand near the water and progress to softer sand) plus calf and ankle strengthening.

For the obstacles, add a short circuit twice a week with jumps, step-ups and lunges.

Do some sessions in the evening heat to get used to the start time and humidity. On race day, run the sand sections by effort rather than pace and save energy to accelerate back on the asphalt.

    Taper

Tapering for the Jurerê Night Run

Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on March 13, 2027, your taper starts around March 4, 2027.
