The organizer bills the course as fast and flat; the marathon and half are USATF certified and the marathon is a Boston qualifier. Saturday's 10K runs through Trinity Park and along the Trinity Trails, and the 5K stays in the park. Marathoners expecting to need more than 5.5 hours can start at 6:00 a.m., and the Sunday courses close at 2:00 p.m.

- Distances
- Marathon, Half marathon, 20 miles, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Early November in Fort Worth usually starts cool, around 45–55 °F at the 7:30 a.m. start, with average highs in the mid-60s and rain on about seven days of the month. Warmer days do happen, so start in a throwaway layer and ease off your goal pace if the sun pushes the temperature up in the final hour.
What to train for
A flat, certified course is made for even pacing, so build your plan around marathon pace: long runs of 18 to 20 miles that include 8 to 12 miles at goal pace.
With few hills to slow you, keep one weekly session of 6 to 8 x 2 minutes at 10K effort to build the strength that holds pace late in the race.
The 20 miler works as a goal in its own right or as a final long run before a winter or spring marathon: run the last 5 miles at steady marathon effort. On long runs, practice fueling every 30 to 40 minutes on the same kind of riverside path you will race on.

Taper
Tapering for the Fort Worth Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
