    Course

    The Dez Milhas Garoto course

This is a point-to-point 16.09 km race between two cities: it starts on Av. Dante Michelini by Praia de Camburi in Vitória and finishes at the Chocolates Garoto factory on Praça Meyerfreund in Glória, Vila Velha.

    Read the full course notes

Runners cross the Ponte de Camburi around km 3, then work through Vitória on Av. Saturnino de Brito, Av. Américo Buaiz and the surrounding avenues. The signature stretch is the Terceira Ponte from about km 7 to km 11, where runners must stay in the lane reserved for the race, before the course continues into Vila Velha along Av. Castelo Branco and Av. Jerônimo Monteiro to the factory gates. The general field starts at 6:35 a.m., five minutes after the elite women and wheelchair athletes, and the course closes 2 hours 15 minutes after the start. The 2026 race was the 35th edition.

    Weather on race day
Late September in Vitória is usually warm and humid at the 6:35 a.m. start, around 20–24 °C, with daytime highs near 27 °C. Rain is possible on roughly one day in four, and the sun climbs quickly on the open bridge, so start hydrated, take water early and save some energy for a warmer second half.

    What to train for

Ten miles rewards a strong threshold: build a weekly tempo run up to 30–40 minutes at 10-mile effort, and add 5 × 2 km at slightly faster than goal pace with short recoveries.

The four kilometres on the Terceira Ponte are long and exposed, so practise even-effort running there: do progression runs where you hold one effort for 15–20 minutes without surging, then finish strong over the last 5 km into Vila Velha.

Build long runs to 18–22 km so 16 km feels comfortable, and do a couple of early-morning sessions in warm conditions to rehearse drinking on the move.
