    Course

The Corrida Dia do Pai course

The race starts and finishes at the Queimódromo in Porto's Parque da Cidade, the city's big seaside park on the border with Matosinhos, with a 9:00 start. The 10 km heads out along the Estrada Interior da Circunvalação, Rua da Vilarinha and Avenida do Parque to Avenida da Boavista, then reaches the ocean at Praça de Gonçalves Zarco by the Castelo do Queijo.

From there it follows the Atlantic seafront on Avenida de Montevideu and Avenida do Brasil into Foz do Douro, turns around near the Esplanada do Castelo and Rua Dom Luís Filipe, and comes back by the sea on Avenida de Dom Carlos I and Avenida do Brasil. The return passes the Castelo do Queijo again and runs along the Circunvalação to the finish. It is a fast, mostly flat single loop on asphalt, with water at 5 km.

    Weather on race day
Mid-March mornings in Porto are usually 9–13 °C at the 9:00 start, with highs around 16 °C. Expect Atlantic humidity, a fair chance of showers and wind off the sea along Avenida do Brasil, so keep a light layer and a cap for the wait in the start area.

    What to train for

A flat single-loop 10 km is a pacing test: run 4 to 6 × 1.5 km at goal pace with short recoveries, plus a weekly tempo run of 25 to 30 minutes.

The seafront out-and-back can bring a headwind in one direction, so practise holding effort rather than pace on windy days and look for a group to run with on the exposed stretch.

Finish a few easy runs with 6 × 20-second strides to sharpen your speed for the closing kilometres along the Circunvalação.

    Taper

Tapering for the Corrida Dia do Pai

Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
