Course
The CLASH Coastal Mississippi course
Race headquarters is Jones Park in Gulfport, next to the Mississippi Aquarium and the rebuilt Gulfport Municipal Marina. The swim is a protected, rectangular saltwater course in the Gulf beside the marina, with a sandy beach entry and a rolling start seeded by expected swim time: 1 mile for the Daytona Distance and half a mile for the sprint.

The bike is a traffic-controlled, flat and fast coastal route heading east from Jones Park along the beach road (US 90) toward Biloxi, 35 miles for the Daytona Distance and 12 miles for the sprint. The run winds through Gulfport's coastal neighborhoods, 9 miles or 3.1 miles, with aid about every mile. Duathlon, aquabike and open-water swim options race the same morning, with the Daytona Distance starting at 7:15 a.m. and the sprint at 8:30.

- Race-day conditions
- The organizers expect water in the upper 60s to low 70s °F and say a wetsuit-legal swim is highly likely, so plan to race in one (and check current USA Triathlon rules). Early April in Gulfport usually runs from the upper 50s to the mid 70s °F, with humidity building through the morning and sea breezes on the beach road. Start drinking early on the bike, because the run lands in the warmest part of the morning.
What to train for
The Daytona Distance is an unusual format: a 1-mile swim, a 35-mile ride and a 9-mile run, so the run is longer than an Olympic 10K and the ride sits between Olympic and half distance.
On a flat coastal road that can be windy, steady aero power matters most: ride 2 to 3 x 20 minutes at strong, sustainable effort in your aero position.
Build your long run to 11 to 12 miles and do weekly bricks of 75 to 90 minutes on the bike straight into 30 to 45 minutes of running. Get several saltwater swims in a wetsuit, practicing buoy sighting and a run-in beach start.

Taper
Tapering for the CLASH Coastal Mississippi
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on April 4, 2027, your taper starts around March 26, 2027.
