Course
The Clapham Common Half course
All three races start and finish at the event village on Clapham Common in south London, and the route stays inside the park, looping the Common's footpaths past the bandstand and back by the event village. The paths are flat: RunThrough's route data shows about 33 m of climbing for the 10K and around 70 m over the half, so this is a genuine personal best opportunity.

It is not a closed road race, so you share the Common with walkers, dogs and cyclists, and runners on different distances overlap on the loops. The half starts at 9:00, the 10K at 9:30 and the 5K at 9:45, there is water at every 5 km, and the final stretch to the line is on a pebble surface.

- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Late September in London usually brings 12–16 °C at the start, with daytime highs near 20 °C on the Met Office's Heathrow record. The open middle of the Common can feel warm once the sun is up, so start at a relaxed effort and use every 5 km water stop.
What to train for
A flat park course rewards steady pacing more than anything, so build your plan around threshold work such as 4–5 x 6 minutes at 10K to half marathon effort with 90 seconds easy.
Run some sessions on park paths so you get used to mixed tarmac and gravel and to weaving around other people.
On looped courses it is easy to surge in the first lap; practise even splits by running each kilometre of your long run within a few seconds of the last. Half marathoners should build the long run to 18–20 km with the final third at goal pace.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Clapham Common Half
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on September 26, 2027, your taper starts around September 14, 2027.
