In 2025 the gun went at 6:30 p.m., after dark, following youth races in the afternoon, and runners warm up in the Pontinha area and line up in seeded start corrals. The organisers do not publish an elevation profile, and the route can change slightly from year to year, so check the official map in December.

What to train for
At under 6 km this is a fast race off general fitness.
Two sessions a week help most: intervals such as 6 × 800 m at 5K pace with short recoveries, and a 20 to 25 minute tempo run.
With thousands of runners, practise a relaxed first kilometre so the crowded start does not push you out too fast.
