Course
The Sole to City course
Sole to City is billed as the first ever point to point half marathon in Youngstown. It starts at 7:30 a.m. on Route 224 in front of Second Sole, 755 Boardman Canfield Road, runs through Mill Creek Park and finishes downtown at Penguin City on Federal Street.

The 2 Mile Walk/Run starts at 8:00 a.m. downtown at the half marathon finish line. Because the course is one way, shuttles run from the finish back to Second Sole between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and an interactive course map is linked from the race site.
- Distances
- Half marathon
- Weather on race day
- Early June in Youngstown averages lows around 54 °F and highs near 75 °F, so the 7:30 a.m. start is usually comfortably cool. June is the wettest month of the year there and roughly one day in three sees some rain, though muggy days are still uncommon this early in the month. Bring a light layer or rain shell you are happy to wear or toss at the start.
What to train for
A point to point course has no loops to break it up, so long runs of 10 to 12 miles that go somewhere, rather than laps, are great preparation for the feeling of running from Boardman into the city.
The middle miles pass through Mill Creek Park, so include park or greenway runs and some gentle hills to keep your legs ready for changing ground.
Add a weekly tempo run of 4 to 6 miles at half marathon pace, and finish a few long runs with the last 2 miles at goal effort so you can push toward downtown.
