    Course

    The Run The Land course

Everything starts at Great Lakes Brewing Company on Market Avenue, with the marathon and 20 miler off at 8:00 a.m., the half at 9:15, the 10K at 10:00 and the 5K at 10:15. This is a rules-of-the-road event: you run on sidewalks and follow traffic laws, and the organizers say the routes have few crossings and are easy to follow, with the RaceJoy GPS app alerting you if you drift off course.

The long routes head west with stops at Ready Set Coffee (mile 2.1 and 24), Lakewood Park (5.4 and 20.7), 2nd Sole (8.1 and 18.2), Rockport UMC (11.1), the Little Met Golf Course (13.4), Tyler Field (14.8) and Memorial Fields (16.5), so the full distances work as an out-and-back. Aid comes about every 3 miles, and each station has a closing time, so check the cutoffs before you pick your pace. The East vs. West theme plays on the old saying that Clevelanders never cross the river: pick a team at checkout and run whichever course you like.

    Distances
    5K, 10K, Half marathon, 20 miles, Marathon
    Weather on race day
Around April 10 Cleveland typically sees highs in the mid 50s °F and lows near 41 °F, so the 8:00 a.m. start is often in the 40s °F. The chance of a wet day is about one in three, and winds average around 11 mph, mostly from the west, which you may feel on the westbound legs. Dress in layers you can tie around your waist or drop with your crew, and bring gloves for the first miles. Snow is essentially off the table by this date, so it is usually great weather for a long run.

    What to train for

Run The Land is built as a fully supported long run for spring marathoners heading to Cleveland or Glass City, so treat the 20 miler or marathon as a key training day rather than an all-out race.

Run most of it at easy long-run effort, and if your plan calls for it, finish the last 4 to 6 miles near marathon pace.

Because you stop at crossings and share sidewalks, practice restarting smoothly after a pause and carry a small bottle between the 3-mile aid stops. Shorter distances make a great early-season tune-up for a half or 10K, and every option raises money for a Greater Cleveland nonprofit you choose.
