    Course

    The Route du Louvre course

La Route du Louvre is a point-to-point marathon that starts in Seclin at 9:30 and runs south through the old mining basin of northern France to the forecourt of the Louvre-Lens museum. Along the way it uses canal towpaths and passes through the region's former coal country, a landscape now listed by UNESCO.

The 10 km starts at 9:15 and the 5 km at 10:20, both from Place Jean Jaurès in central Lens. All three races carry French Athletics Federation labels (silver for the marathon, bronze for the 10 km and 5 km) and are measured courses. In 2025 the 20th edition drew about 15,500 participants across all events.

    Distances
    5K, 10K, Marathon
    Weather on race day
May in Lens averages a high of about 18 °C and a low of about 9 °C, comfortable conditions for a spring marathon. The month brings around 61 mm of rain over roughly 14 days, so a shower on race morning is quite possible. Pack a light rain jacket or a bin bag for the start, and carry a cap for the open stretches of the mining basin if the sun comes out.

    What to train for

A point-to-point course means you cannot see the finish coming, so practise long runs with a steady, even effort and a strong last 10 km.

Plan your transport to the Seclin start early, since the race ends in Lens.

The marathon cutoff is 5 hours 30 minutes, the 10 km 1 hour 30 and the 5 km 50 minutes, which gives every runner a fair window. Practise taking gels on the move and keep waste for the official aid zones, where it must be dropped.
