Course
The La Rochelle Marathon course
A two-loop, FFA and AIMS certified course that starts at 9:00 from twin start lines on Quai Maubec and Quai Louis Durand by the Vieux-Port, splitting the field over the first 600 m. The loops take you out from the old harbour through the city and its seafront districts and back past the start, so you see the crowds twice.

The official profile never rises above about 20 m, and the organisers market it as a fast course for performances. The finish sits beneath the medieval harbour towers near the Tour de la Chaîne, with a grandstand by the old town ramparts and a 5 h 30 limit.

- About 10,000 runners (sold out)
- Weather on race day
- Late November on the Atlantic coast is usually cool and damp: about 7–13 °C during the race, with rain showers on many days and wind off the sea that can be noticeable on the exposed seafront. Cool temperatures suit a strong marathon, so dress for wind and drizzle at the start and take on fluids steadily rather than all at once.
What to train for
Flat and two loops means a pacing race: build long runs to 30–32 km with 15–20 km at goal marathon pace, run on similar flat ground.
Practise holding pace into a headwind by working with a group or running by effort on blustery days.
Because you pass the start area at halfway, rehearse a disciplined first loop so the crowds do not pull you faster than plan.

Taper
Tapering for the La Rochelle Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on November 29, 2026, your taper starts around November 11, 2026.
