Course
The Little Miami Half course
Both races start and finish at Phegley Park on Main Street in the village of Morrow, with the half marathon off at 7:00 a.m. and the 10K at 7:30 a.m. After a first mile through Morrow, the course joins the paved Little Miami Scenic Trail, a former railroad line with no vehicle traffic, and runs out and back with little to no elevation change.

The 10K turns at 3.45 miles, while the USATF certified half heads on toward South Lebanon before coming back. Aid stations sit at miles 2.5, 3.25, 5.5, 7, 8.5, 10.75 and 11.5, with gels at mile 7, and the finish closes at 11:00 a.m.

- Weather on race day
- Early August in southwest Ohio is warm and humid. The race site lists average highs around 85 °F and lows around 64 °F, and regional averages show dew points in the low 60s °F, so the air feels muggy even at the start. The early start keeps you ahead of the worst heat, and the tree-lined trail offers some shade. Start a touch easier than goal pace, drink at the regular aid stations, and remember the race goes ahead in any weather.
What to train for
This is a flat, smooth course, so it rewards steady pacing more than climbing strength.
Build tempo runs of 3 to 6 miles at goal pace on flat paved paths or rail trails, and practice locking into an even rhythm for long stretches.
Long runs of 10 to 13 miles for the half (or 5 to 7 for the 10K) on similar ground will make race day feel familiar. Because the race is in early August, schedule some key runs in the morning heat so your body learns to cope.

Taper
Tapering for the Little Miami Half
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on August 1, 2027, your taper starts around July 20, 2027.
