    Course

The Great Miami Riverway Half course

The Great Miami Riverway Half has run since 2014 as a point-to-point half from Troy to Piqua along the Great Miami River. It starts on Water Street in Troy near Cherry Street, behind the Miami County Courthouse, and finishes at a new riverside park in Piqua near Lock 9 and Crooked Handle Brewery.

The course uses the bike path as much as possible, with road crossings at Lytle, Eldean and Peterson Roads, plus some Troy and Piqua city streets. In 2026 the race started at 8:00 am, with a 7:00 am early start for walkers and anyone expecting more than 3 hours, five water and nutrition stops, pace groups from 1:45 to 2:30, and a shuttle back from Piqua to Troy. The 2027 date has not been announced yet.

    Weather on race day
Ten years of mid-September weather data for Troy show average highs near 79 °F and lows near 60 °F, with about 62 °F at 8 am and humid mornings. Rain falls on about one day in five in this window. Expect a cool start that warms through the morning, and drink at every stop in the second half.

    What to train for

A point-to-point bike path course is ideal for steady pacing, so practise goal-pace segments on paved trails in your long runs (for example 2 x 3 miles at goal pace inside a 10 to 12 mile run).

If you plan to run with a pace group, train at that exact pace so it feels familiar on race day.

A September race means summer training, so run early, keep easy days truly easy and let effort guide you on humid mornings. Practise fueling at roughly the spacing of the five aid stops.
