Course
The Goulburn Running Festival course
Every distance starts and finishes at Riverside Park in Goulburn, the event village beside the Wollondilly River. The course runs entirely on paved riverside paths around the Wollondilly, and the organisers describe it as undulating, so expect a steady series of short rises and dips rather than one big hill.

The 10 km starts at 9:00 am, the half marathon at 9:25 am and the 5 km at 10:30 am, and the half has a generous 3.5-hour cut-off. The paths stay open to walkers, cyclists and dogs on race morning, so keep your eyes up and leave the earphones at home. Water and Tailwind are served at seven points on the half (3, 5, 9.6, 11.5, 13.5, 18 and 20 km).

- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Goulburn sits on the Southern Tablelands, and mid-October mornings are usually cool, around 8–14 °C by the 9 am starts, with afternoon highs near 20 °C. Spring breezes and the odd shower are common, so start in a throwaway layer, settle into your pace over the first rises and drink to thirst as it warms up.
What to train for
An undulating path course rewards even effort over even pace.
Run your weekly long run on a rolling route and practise holding the same breathing rhythm up each short rise, then letting the pace come back on the far side.
Once a week add 8 to 10 x 45 seconds uphill at 5 km effort, and for the half finish your last two long runs with 5 to 6 km at goal pace. Shared paths mean tight bends and some passing, so practise smooth 10 to 15 second surges inside your steady runs.

Taper
Tapering for the Goulburn Running Festival
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on October 10, 2027, your taper starts around September 28, 2027.
