Course
The Corrida das Lezírias course
Both races start on the EN 10 beside the Parque Urbano do Cevadeiro in Vila Franca de Xira and finish inside the park. The 15 km heads through the town centre (Largo 5 de Outubro, Rua Serpa Pinto, Largo Marquês de Pombal) and crosses the Tagus on the Ponte Marechal Carmona, then turns right onto the EN 10 for a 9 km circuit through the lezíria, the open farmland and wetland of the river plain, before returning the same way.

The 5 km crosses the same bridge and turns back. The ground is flat throughout, and the only real rises are the bridge ramps, which you meet on the way out and again on the way home. Surfaces mix asphalt, cobbles in the old town and, on the 15 km, stretches of compacted dirt, with water at 5 and 10 km.

- Weather on race day
- Late February in the Tagus valley is usually cool, around 10–16 °C at the 10:00 start, with a fair chance of rain. The lezíria offers no shelter, so wind can be the main factor: start in a layer you can shed and tuck in behind other runners on the exposed stretches.
What to train for
With nothing to climb, the 15 km rewards steady pacing and the ability to hold rhythm in the wind.
Build tempo runs of 25 to 40 minutes at race pace and a few progressive long runs of 16 to 20 km on flat roads.
Include some easy runs on gravel or dirt paths so the unpaved sections feel natural, and practice running smoothly over cobbles. A few short uphill strides each week will make the bridge ramp on the way back feel easy.
