Course
The Brisbane Marathon course
Running since 1992, the marathon starts at 6:00 am in the Brisbane CBD and finishes inside the City Botanic Gardens. Its signature moment is the fully closed Story Bridge at sunrise, after which the course traces the river through Kangaroo Point and New Farm on closed roads, with crowd support along the way.

The organisers call it predominantly flat and list total elevation gain of roughly 230–290 m (their pages give both figures), with the Story Bridge the most noticeable climb. It is AIMS-certified and a Boston qualifier. The 2027 route map is listed as coming soon, so check it for the exact loops once it is published.

- Distances
- 5K, 10K, Half marathon, Marathon
- Field
- About 20,000 runners across five distances
- Weather on race day
- Early June in Brisbane is usually cool and dry at the 6:00 am start, around 11–15 °C, warming to about 22 °C in the sunshine. Humidity is lower than in summer and rain is infrequent, which makes this one of the city's best months to race. The sun is strong by mid-morning, so later finishers should wear a cap and drink at every station.
What to train for
Prepare for a mostly flat course with a few real climbs: add a weekly session of 6–10 x 60–90 seconds uphill at 10K effort, and run bridges or overpasses in your long runs so you practise climbing and descending without surging.
Build long runs to 32–35 km with goal-pace blocks in the second half.
Run the Story Bridge on effort rather than pace and let the time come back on the flat river roads. A few early starts in your final month will help you rehearse breakfast and fuelling for a 6:00 am gun.

Taper
Tapering for the Brisbane Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on June 6, 2027, your taper starts around May 19, 2027.
