    Weather on race day
Mid-September mornings in Wodonga are usually cold and still, around 4–9 °C at the start, with fog possible and highs in the high teens. Wear gloves and a layer you can drop, and allow a longer warm-up so your legs are ready for race pace. The cool, calm air is ideal for running fast, so dress for the second kilometre rather than the start line.

    What to train for

A flat, fully pathed course rewards steady pacing and a strong finish.

For the half, build long runs to 18–22 km with the final 5 km at goal pace, and add a weekly session such as 4 x 2 km at half marathon pace with 2 minutes' jog.

For the 10 km and 5 km, run 8 x 400 m at 5 km pace and a 20-minute tempo. Do a few of your key sessions early on cold mornings so the race-day chill feels familiar.

    Taper

Tapering for the Wodonga Running Festival

Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on September 12, 2027, your taper starts around August 31, 2027.
