Course
The Turkey Trails Columbus course
Despite the name, Turkey Trails Columbus is held about 35 miles east of downtown Columbus on the Ohio State University Newark campus, with the half marathon, 10K and 5K all starting together at 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday in mid-November. The routes stay close to campus, with the half marathon running a doubled version of the course.

Elevation change is modest: the 2026 maps show about 75 feet of climbing on the 5K, about 145 feet on the 10K and about 340 feet on the half, all between roughly 835 and 900 feet above sea level. That makes it a good course for a fast, even effort with just a few gentle rises to manage. Chip timing, live results and a Thanksgiving-themed finish with treats make it an easy-going family morning.

- Distances
- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Mid-November mornings in the Newark area usually start around 30–40 °F, with highs near 50 °F. Expect a cold, possibly breezy start: gloves and a hat you can tuck away help, and the cool air is great for running a quick time once you are warm.
What to train for
This is a course for running even splits, so practise even pacing: a weekly tempo of 15–25 minutes at 10K effort, or 2–3 x 1 mile at half marathon pace for the longer race, teaches the rhythm.
Add 6–8 x 400 m at 5K pace for the shorter distances and 6 x 20-second strides after easy runs to keep your legs quick.
Half marathoners should build long runs to 10–12 miles and rehearse the second lap mentally, holding effort when the same gentle rise comes around again. With the race only a few weeks away, keep the last week light and warm up well on a cold morning before the 8:00 a.m. start.
