The 5K, 10K and half start together at 9:00 AM, after a kids dash at 8:55 AM and an untimed 1-mile option, and packet pickup runs from 7:30 to 8:45 AM on race morning. The half has a 3.5-hour time limit set by the park permit, and walkers are welcome. Every finisher gets a custom finisher medal with a one-of-a-kind design, plus free photos and an after party.

- Weather on race day
- Late January is the coldest stretch of the year in Cincinnati, with average highs near 40 °F and lows around 24 to 25 °F, so expect a chilly 9:00 AM start that only warms a little. About one day in four brings some precipitation, mostly rain, though snow becomes a bit more likely late in the month. Winds average close to 8 mph and mostly come from the west. Dress in light layers with gloves and a hat you can tuck away, and keep a dry layer for after the finish.
What to train for
A January race means your build falls over the holidays and into the coldest weeks of winter, so keep your weekly runs consistent and let shorter, steady sessions carry you when the weather turns.
For the half, use the double loop to your advantage: run the first lap a little easier than goal pace and pick it up on the second once you know the route.
Practice running long in winter layers so you learn what you can shed, and rehearse your fueling with drinks that are not ice cold. Walk breaks are a smart option inside the 3.5-hour limit, and a 10K or 5K is a great goal for a first winter race.
