Course
The Space Coast Marathon course
Both races start in historic Cocoa Village at Cocoa Riverfront Park and finish back at Harrison Street and the park, right on the Indian River. Marathoners first run north along Indian River Drive to the north turnaround, come back through Cocoa Village, then head south along the river to join the half marathon course.

Half marathoners go south on Rockledge Drive to the south turnaround and back, so both races are long out-and-backs with plenty of chances to see other runners. The organizers describe the course as mostly flat and partially shaded, and both distances are USATF certified, which makes the marathon a popular Boston qualifier. 2026 is the race's 55th year, it calls itself the oldest marathon in Florida, and the whole event leans into its space theme, from the aid stations to a featured mission each year.

- Flat
- Distances
- Marathon, Half marathon
- Weather on race day
- Late November in Cocoa usually runs from lows around 61 °F to highs around 78 °F, and the 6:00 a.m. marathon start (6:15 for the half) gets you most of the way before the sun climbs. Florida humidity is the bigger factor than heat, so start a few seconds per mile conservative, drink early and use the shade where you get it.
What to train for
There are no hills to manage here, so the race rewards even pacing and good heat and humidity habits.
Build marathon long runs to 18 to 20 miles with the last 6 to 8 at goal pace, and do some of them in the warmer part of the day to practice drinking on the move.
Because the course is two long out-and-backs, rehearse tight turnarounds in workouts and practice settling straight back into rhythm afterward. The 7-hour limit is generous, so first-timers can focus on finishing strong rather than racing the clock.

Taper
Tapering for the Space Coast Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
