    Course

    The Snohomish River Run course

All four races start and finish in downtown Snohomish at First Street and Avenue D, in the heart of the historic Snohomish Valley. The course follows the winding Snohomish River past farmland and tall evergreens, and the marathon uses Lowell-River Road, which is closed to traffic for five hours on race morning.

The organizers describe it as a fast, runner-friendly course with a welcoming small-town feel. Starts are staggered: the marathon at 7:30 a.m., the half at 8:00, the 10K at 9:00 and the 5K at 9:30. The marathon has a 5-hour limit and the half 4.5 hours, and the course closes at 1:00 p.m.

    Distances
    Marathon, Half marathon, 10K, 5K
    Weather on race day
October in the Snohomish Valley is usually cool and often damp: nearby Everett averages lows in the mid 40s °F and highs around 61 °F, with frequent fall rain. Expect roughly 42–50 °F at the start, sometimes with fog lifting off the river, so a light shell or throwaway layer and gloves will keep you comfortable early on.

    What to train for

The 5-hour marathon limit works out to about 11:27 per mile, so build long runs to 18 to 20 miles and practice holding even splits at your goal pace.

Roads may reopen early if the field thins, so steady pacing also keeps you comfortably within the closure window.

Do some long runs in cool, wet weather to test your shoes, socks and anti-chafe plan. Pacers from the Seattle Green Lake Running Group lead the marathon, so pick your group early and rehearse that pace in midweek runs of 6 to 8 miles.
