Course
The Run Port Douglas course
The half marathon starts at 6:15am on Port Douglas Road at the Mirage Country Club, opposite the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, and finishes on the sand of Four Mile Beach in front of the Port Douglas Surf Club. It is a single lap: through town on Macrossan and Wharf Streets, past the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina, then up Flagstaff Hill, a 750 m climb from 6.3 km to the lookout at 7.2 km.

After the descent the route comes back through town, along the Esplanade and down Port Douglas Road in a dedicated runner lane, with about 116 m of climbing in total, nearly all of it on that one hill. The final 3.5 km are on firm, hard-packed sand along Four Mile Beach, a finish very few road races can match. The 10 km and 5 km also finish on the beach, and all three courses are World Athletics certified.

- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Field
- About 2,500 runners across all distances in the event's second year
- Weather on race day
- Early September is the tropical dry season in Port Douglas: mornings usually start around 19–22 °C and climb towards 27 °C, with low humidity and little chance of rain. The sun is strong once it is up, so the early starts help: drink at every aid station, wear a cap and sunscreen, and keep something in reserve for the beach.
What to train for
Two features decide this race: Flagstaff Hill between 6 and 7 km, and the 3.5 km of sand at the end.
Once a week, run 6 to 8 x 2 minutes uphill at 10 km effort, then jog back down relaxed to practise descending.
If you can reach a beach, finish two or three long runs with 2 to 4 km on firm sand near the waterline to prepare your calves and ankles. Do some runs in late-morning warmth so tropical conditions feel familiar on race day.
