    Course

The Rock Hall Half Marathon course

Every race starts and finishes at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on East 9th Street, with the half marathon and the 3-person relay going off at 7:00 a.m. in front of the Rock Hall. The route is a scenic tour of Cleveland's lakefront with skyline views and live entertainment along the way, and you finish with the Rock Hall right behind the line.

The relay splits the 13.1 miles into three legs: about 3.5 miles to East 59th and Chester, 5.0 miles to the Cleveland Metroparks boat ramp entrance just west of MLK Boulevard, and 4.6 miles back to the finish. The 10K starts at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Science Center and the 5K at 7:45 a.m., and the post-race party at Nuevo opens at 9:00 a.m. The official site does not describe the elevation, so check the interactive course map before you plan your pacing.

    Distances
    Half marathon, 10K, 5K
    Weather on race day
Late August in Cleveland usually brings highs around 79 °F and lows near 66 °F, so the 7:00 a.m. start is often in the upper 60s or low 70s °F. Muggy conditions occur on roughly a third of days at this time of year, and there is about a 30% chance of rain on any given day. Winds off the lake average around 8 mph, mostly from the west, and sunrise is around 6:40 a.m., just before the gun. Start a touch easier than goal pace and drink early, and you will have plenty left for the lakefront miles.

    What to train for

This is a summer race, so most of your build happens in the heat of June, July and August.

Run your long runs early in the morning, build them to 10 to 12 miles, and practice drinking on the move so you arrive ready for a warm, humid finish.

Add a weekly tempo run of 3 to 5 miles at half marathon effort, and keep your easy days truly easy when the dew point is high. Relay runners can train for their own leg (3.5, 5.0 or 4.6 miles) with a few faster finishes so they hand off strong.
