Course
The Meia Maratona de Famalicão course
The half starts on Avenida Brasil and finishes in the car park beside CITEVE, with the 10 km run and walk starting at the same time, 9:30. The first part is a loop of the town centre: a short out-and-back on Avenida Brasil and Avenida Carlos Bacelar, then Avenida 25 de Abril, a run of town-centre streets and a lap around the garden.

Half marathoners then head out of town along the EN 206 and Avenida Tomás Pereira (the EN 309 towards Braga), through Vale São Martinho to a turnaround on Avenida Central in Vale São Cosme, and retrace the same road back to the finish. The organisers called the 2026 course demanding, yet Daniel Kosen won in 1:01:58, so it rewards runners who pace the long out-and-back well. Aid is at km 5 and 20 (water) and km 10 and 15 (water, sports drink and gel).

- Weather on race day
- Mid-October in the Minho and Porto region usually brings mornings of about 12–17 °C, but it is also the start of the wet season, with Porto averaging around 150 mm of rain in October. Bring a light rain layer for the start and expect humid air; a cool, damp morning suits steady pacing.
What to train for
The race splits into a busy, twisty town loop and a long out-and-back on main roads, so practise both: hold back through the corners of the first 7 to 8 km, then settle into rhythm on the open road.
A long run of 16 to 20 km with the middle 10 km at half marathon pace on a single road you retrace teaches you to pace the turnaround and the trip home.
Gels are only at km 10 and 15, so train with one gel around 45 to 50 minutes in, and add one weekly session of 5 x 2 km at goal pace with 90 seconds easy.
