Support is generous: water and Gatorade about every 1.5 miles, portable restrooms at miles 1, 3.5, 4.5, 7, 10 and 11.5, and medical tents at the start/finish and mile 7. The half is open to runners and competitive walkers, and the 5K welcomes runners and walkers too.

    Distances
    Half marathon, 5K
    Weather on race day
Late May in Medina averages a high near 73 °F and a low near 54 °F, so the early start usually lands in the mid 50s to low 60s. There is about a 36% chance of a wet day, and muggy days are still uncommon at around 11%. Start hydrating the day before, use the frequent water stops, and bring sunscreen for the open stretches later in the morning.

    What to train for

Build long runs to 10 to 12 miles over a mix of roads and gravel paths so the Lake Medina loop feels natural underfoot.

Since the route returns up to the square, finish some long runs with a gradual climb and practice keeping your effort even rather than your pace.

Get used to early starts by doing a few weekend long runs before 7:00 a.m., which matches the 6:45 a.m. gun. Add a weekly tempo of 20 to 30 minutes at comfortably hard effort to make the middle miles through the neighborhoods feel smooth.
