Course
The Hyannis Triathlon course
Everything starts and finishes at Craigville Beach in Centerville, on the Barnstable shore of Nantucket Sound. The swim is a sandy running start into a rectangular course that stays within 100 yards of shore: 1/4 mile for the Sprint, and two loops for 0.9 mile in the Olympic, with a 30-minute cutoff on the first half-mile.

The bike is a rolling loop on well-paved roads through Centerville, Osterville and Wianno, 10.2 miles for the Sprint, while Olympic riders turn onto Bay Lane near mile 9 for a second circuit and 20 miles in total. The run heads toward Hyannisport with one gentle uphill and a downhill final stretch: 3.6 miles for the Sprint, and an out-and-back repeated twice for the Olympic 10K. Duathletes run 1.4 miles, ride the Sprint bike course and finish on the Sprint run.

- Race-day conditions
- The race says Nantucket Sound is typically in the low 70s °F, which sits inside the USA Triathlon wetsuit-legal range (up to 78 °F) for this sanctioned race, and conditions have ranged from glassy calm to moderate chop. Cape Cod mornings in mid-September usually start around 58–65 °F and warm into the low 70s, often with a sea breeze. Bring a warm layer for the 5:30 a.m. transition setup and take a short warm-up swim, since the first minutes can feel brisk.
What to train for
Practice beach starts: run into the water, dolphin through the shallows and settle your stroke within the first 100 yards, ideally in open water with some chop.
The rolling bike roads reward steady power, so ride 60 to 90 minutes on similar terrain holding an even effort over each rise instead of surging.
The run is mostly fast with one gentle climb, so do brick runs straight off the bike at goal pace (2 to 3 miles for the Sprint, 4 to 6 for the Olympic). Olympic racers should be swimming 1,600 yards continuously and comfortably well before race day, since the first half-mile carries a 30-minute cutoff.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Hyannis Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on September 11, 2027, your taper starts around September 2, 2027.
