    Course

The Cool Sommer Mornings #3 course

Series #3 (Storm Peak of Zeus) starts and finishes at Clermont Waterfront Park on the shore of Lake Minneola and offers a 5K run/walk, a sprint triathlon and relay, a double sprint, a sprint duathlon, aquabike and aquathlon. The sprint swim is a 440-yard rectangular course in Lake Minneola.

The 8.2-mile bike lap goes clockwise around the lake, and double sprint athletes ride it twice for 16.4 miles. The run is an out-and-back 5K on the South Lake Trail, and duathletes open with a 1-mile run before the bike. The double sprint (the whole sprint done twice in a row) is a fun way to try longer racing without leaving a familiar course.

    Formats
Sprint, Double Sprint, Sprint Duathlon, Sprint Aquabike
    Race-day conditions
August mornings in Central Florida are usually already in the mid-70s °F at the 7:00 a.m. start, climbing toward the low 90s by late morning, with high humidity and a chance of thunderstorms later in the day. The organizer projects a water temperature of 82–84 °F, and wetsuits follow USA Triathlon rules, which at that temperature means swimming without one if you want to stay eligible for awards. Start well hydrated, take fluids at every aid station and expect to run a little slower than your cool-weather pace.

    What to train for

Heat is the main opponent, so do some sessions in the morning heat and practice drinking every 10–15 minutes on the bike.

Swim in open water without a wetsuit, sighting every 6–8 strokes so you hold a straight line on the rectangle.

Brick workouts (an 8–10 mile ride straight into a 15–20 minute run) prepare you for the quick changes, and double sprint athletes should rehearse swim, bike and run twice in one session at least once.
