Course
The Camarillo Marathon course
All four races start at Pleasant Valley Fields Park and run a loop along the city's bike path, with the half covering it twice and the full marathon four times. The organisers describe it as all flat, and it is a USATF-certified course and Boston qualifier, with easy spectating because every loop brings you back past the park.

Starts are staggered: full at 7:00 a.m., half 7:15, 10K 7:30 and 5K 7:45, with an optional 6:00 a.m. early start for marathoners who need more time. The time limit is a generous 7 hours, portable toilets sit about every 1.5 miles, and the water stations are cupless, so carry your own bottle or buy a reusable cup at check-in. 2027 is the 15th edition.

- Marathon, Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Early August in Camarillo is usually mild at the 7:00 a.m. start, around 60–68 °F and often under coastal morning cloud, but the sun can push temperatures toward the 80s by late morning. Marathoners run the last loops in the warmest part of the day, so start a little slower than goal pace and drink at every station.
What to train for
A flat, looped course is ideal for even pacing: do long runs on a measured loop and aim to hit the same split every lap, running the last lap at goal pace.
Build to 18 to 20 miles for the full and 11 to 12 for the half.
As a summer race, it pays to do some long runs in warm conditions and to practise drinking from your own handheld bottle or cup, since there are no disposable cups. Laps can feel repetitive, so in training break the marathon into four mental chunks of about 6.5 miles.

Taper
Tapering for the Camarillo Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on August 1, 2027, your taper starts around July 14, 2027.
