Course
The Brighton Running Festival course
The festival is based at Decker Park on Flinders Parade in Brighton, on Brisbane's northern bayside, right beside the Hornibrook Bridge. The course follows the waterfront between Decker Park and Shorncliffe Pier, through the Sandgate foreshore, with views across Moreton Bay the whole way.

It is flat and fast, with no hills to speak of, which makes it a genuine personal best opportunity at every distance. Starts are early: the 10 km at 6:30, the half marathon at 6:50 and the 5 km at 8:00, with a 3.5 hour cut-off for the half. The paths are shared with the public, so stay alert on busier stretches.

- Flat
- Distances
- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Mid-August is late winter in Brisbane, which usually means dry, clear mornings around 10–15 °C at the start, warming to the low 20s by mid-morning. Sea breezes can pick up along the bay, so expect some headwind on part of the course. Conditions favour fast times, but half marathoners will finish in full sun, so wear a cap and sunscreen and drink at the stations.
What to train for
A flat waterfront course is a pure pace test, so train to hold an even rhythm.
For the half, build tempo runs to 2 x 20 minutes at half marathon pace and long runs of 18–22 km with the last 5 km at goal pace.
For the 10 km and 5 km, add intervals such as 5 x 1 km at 10 km pace with 90 seconds' jog. On breezy days, practise running by effort into the wind and taking time back with it behind you.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Brighton Running Festival
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on August 15, 2027, your taper starts around August 3, 2027.
