Course
The Turkey Trails Cincinnati course
The 2026 race is based at the Cummins Shelter in Rentschler Forest MetroPark, 5701 Reigart Road in Hamilton, north of Cincinnati, and every distance starts at 8:00 a.m. (the Kids Dash lines up at 7:55 a.m.).
Read the full course notes
Rentschler Forest is a 125-acre Butler County park on the Great Miami River, with woods, Kennedy Creek, remnants of the historic Miami-Erie Canal and 13.8 miles of paved and primitive trails. The organiser builds the course through local parks and notes it can change for permit or volunteer reasons, so check the 5K, 10K and half marathon maps linked on the registration page close to race day. The 5K, 10K and half are chip timed with live results, while the 1 mile and Kids Dash are untimed. The race goes ahead in rain, snow or cold, so come ready for whatever mid-November brings.
- Distances
- 5K, 10K, Half marathon
- Weather on race day
- Mid-November around Cincinnati usually means a cold 8:00 a.m. start, roughly 35–45 °F, warming toward the low 50s by late morning, with a chance of rain. Wear gloves and a layer you can drop, warm up well before the start, and keep drinking even when the air feels cool.
What to train for
With a park course that can be adjusted before race day, train to be adaptable: run most easy miles on varied park paths rather than only on a treadmill or track.
Half marathoners should build the long run to 10–12 miles with the final 2 miles at goal pace, plus a weekly tempo of 20–30 minutes at comfortably hard effort.
For the 5K and 10K, run 6 to 8 x 400 m or 4 to 5 x half mile at 5K pace, and add short hill repeats of 30–45 seconds once a week so any rise in the park feels manageable. The 8:00 a.m. start is early, so do a couple of long runs at that hour to rehearse breakfast and warm-up timing.
