The half is a single loop on roads, described as flat with no out-and-backs. Teams of three can split the distance into relay legs of 3.4, 6.6 and 3.1 miles, each one fast and a great option for runners who are not ready for the full half. Pace teams run from 1:30 to 3:00, so there is a group for almost every goal.

    Weather on race day
Late August in Canton is still summer. Climate data for Canton give an August average high of about 83 °F and a low of about 61 °F. The average August dew point is about 61 °F, which feels noticeably humid, so hydrate well in the days before. The 7:00 a.m. start helps you run in the cooler part of the morning, and August brings about 3.7 inches of rain over the month.

    What to train for

A flat road loop is made for a steady, even effort, so practise locking into goal pace with tempo runs of 3 to 6 miles in the weeks before.

Build your long run to 10 to 12 miles so the closing miles back to the Hall of Fame feel strong.

If you plan to join a pace team, rehearse that exact pace in training to make race morning feel familiar. Relay runners can sharpen up with shorter intervals at a pace a little faster than 10K effort, since every leg is short and quick.
