Course
The Triathlon Ingolstadt course
Every distance starts with a swim in the Baggersee Ingolstadt, where the 750 m sprint course is now permanently marked with GPS-placed buoys; the Olympic swim is 1.5 km and the middle distance 1.9 km. The bike leaves the lake for the city and the surrounding countryside, crossing the Danube bridges and rolling through farmland in the river meadows on well-kept, relatively flat roads: 20 km for the sprint, 40 km for the Olympic and 86 km for the middle distance, which reaches further out into the Schanzer Umland.

The run follows the Danube into town (5 km, 10 km or 20 km), with aid stations including the DAV and Theaterplatz, and finishes in the Klenzepark in the city centre.

- Race-day conditions
- Early June in Ingolstadt averages highs around 21 °C and lows near 11 °C, so the morning swim start feels fresh and the run can turn warm by midday. About 38% of June days bring some rain, and wind usually comes from the west at around 12 km/h. The organizers publish Baggersee water temperatures from about two weeks before race day (14.4 °C was measured in mid-April 2026), and wetsuit rules follow the DTU Sportordnung.
What to train for
A flat bike course rewards steady power, so build long aerobic rides and race-pace blocks on the aero bars, such as 3 x 15 minutes at goal effort for the Olympic or 2 x 30 minutes for the middle distance.
With two separate sites (lake and Klenzepark), rehearse your transitions and practise running straight off the bike with weekly bricks.
Get into open water in your wetsuit from May, since the Baggersee can still be cool in spring. Middle-distance athletes should keep in mind the 15:30 finish cutoff and practise eating and drinking on the bike.

Taper
Tapering for the Triathlon Ingolstadt
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on June 6, 2027, your taper starts around May 25, 2027.
