The organiser describes every route as paved trail and places the course on the Canal Towpath Trail, so expect mostly level running on a smooth surface. Detailed course maps are still marked coming soon, so check the race site in the weeks before race day for the turnarounds and aid stations. At the finish you pick a freshly baked cookie in the flavour of your choice, along with a mug and a finisher medal.

- Weather on race day
- Mid-December in Cleveland usually sits around 28–40 °F, with gray skies, frequent snow showers and a breeze off Lake Erie. Dress in layers you can shed, wear gloves and a hat, and watch for slick patches on the trail; the race goes ahead rain, snow or shine.
What to train for
A level paved trail rewards steady pacing, so build your plan around one quality session a week: for the 5K, 5 to 6 x 800 m at goal pace with 2 minutes of easy jogging; for the 10K, 3 x 2 miles at goal pace with 3 minutes easy.
Mid-December means cold and possibly icy footing, so run some of those sessions outdoors in the gear you plan to race in and rehearse a 15 minute warm-up you can do near the start.
Keep one easy long run a week, 6 to 8 miles for 10K runners and 4 to 5 for the 5K. Finish two easy runs a week with 6 x 20 second strides so you can settle quickly when the whole field starts together.
