Course
The Fall Classic course
The Cleveland Road Runners Club hosts the Fall Classic at Bonnie Park in Strongsville, where both the half marathon and the 5K start and finish. The courses are flat, fast and scenic, running mainly on the road along Valley Parkway through the Cleveland Metroparks, and both are USATF certified.

In 2026 the event became a two-day weekend: the 5K (with a ruck option) runs Saturday at 9:00 a.m., and "The Classic 13.1" and the half marathon relay go off Sunday at 9:00 a.m., with an optional 8:15 a.m. early start for walkers. You can run both days as the Foxy Challenge, and each day is capped at 1,000 runners, so it pays to register early.

- Weather on race day
- Late November around Cleveland usually brings highs near 50 °F and lows in the high 30s °F, so the 9:00 a.m. start is often in the low 40s °F. There is about a one-in-four chance of precipitation on any given day, and skies are mostly cloudy more than half the time by late November. Winds pick up this time of year, averaging around 12 mph, mostly from the west. Gloves, a light long-sleeve layer and a warm-up close to the start will help you feel great from the first mile.
What to train for
A flat, certified course is a great place to chase a personal best, so build your plan around steady, even pacing.
Do a weekly tempo of 4 to 6 miles at goal half marathon pace and a long run that reaches 11 to 13 miles in the final month.
Practice your pace on flat roads or a park path so you can lock in your rhythm along Valley Parkway. If you are taking on the Foxy Challenge, add a few weekends with a short, quick run on Saturday and a long run on Sunday so your legs learn back-to-back efforts.

Taper
Tapering for the Fall Classic
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.

Is the Fall Classic course hilly?
