Course
The Temecula Half Marathon course
The half starts at 7:00 a.m. and finishes at Wilson Creek Winery & Vineyards on Rancho California Road, in the heart of Temecula Valley wine country. The route follows vineyard-lined roads through rolling countryside, with about 450 feet of total climbing spread across a series of rolling hills rather than one big climb.

The surface is mostly paved with a few packed-dirt sections, so expect a couple of changes underfoot. The 10K and 5K start at 7:30 a.m., and all three races share a four-hour limit, which works out to an 18:18 per mile pace for the half. The course is well marked and finishes with a lively wine-country celebration at the winery.

- Distances
- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Early November in Temecula is usually dry, with cool mornings and warm afternoons: expect roughly 45–55 °F at the 7:00 a.m. start and average highs in the low 70s. Rain is rare, so the sun gets strong on the exposed vineyard roads as the morning goes on; wear sunglasses and sunscreen, and drink at every stop if it warms up early.
What to train for
With about 450 feet of climbing spread over rolling hills, train for rhythm on repeated short rises: one hilly long run a week plus 6 to 10 x 60 to 90 seconds uphill at 10K effort.
Practice running relaxed downhill so the descents become recovery rather than braking.
Do a few easy runs on packed dirt so the unpaved sections feel familiar. Long runs of 10 to 12 miles over rolling terrain, with the last 2 to 3 miles at half marathon effort, are the best rehearsal for this course.

Taper
Tapering for the Temecula Half Marathon
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week.
